"Look at that Momma - a shooting star!"
She smiled at her son. "Yes, honey. How beautiful. Why don't you make a wish?"
"I wish for you not to be alone this new year."
Tears formed in her eyes. Now there was a thought she'd wished often over the last few months. Someone to come along, and share his life with her and her son. "That's nice, sweetie. But  you could have wished for something for yourself."
"I don't want you to be lonely."
"I'm not lonely. I have you."
He rolled his eyes. "Mom, you know what I mean."
She ruffled his hair. "Okay - time for bed."
"But I'm not tired." He let out a big yawn.
Famous last words for a tired child, she thought.

All right - you're up! What happens next?

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY # 7

I know you all think sexy Man Candy is my favorite thing *grin* but today I'm going to talk about a few of my other favorite things - Christmas things and Winter things....Food and Drink!

Honey Baked Spiral Ham! Yum. If you've never had one, treat yourself and your family this year. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Next, something I make - Mashed sweet potatoes. My recipe is 4 or 5 large sweet potatoes, 1 can of sweetened condensed mile, 1/2 cup of sugar. Cook potatoes, drain and mash, add milk and sugar, top with marshmallows. This is sinfully good.

My sister-in-law's rolls. They are so good, people pay her to make them for their family gatherings. Total warm, yeasty goodness. Mmmm. I want one now! :)

Oh, yeah. Red Velvet Cake. Can you believe until a couple of years ago I had never tried this delicious dessert?? Criminal, I say! If you haven't given into this pleasure, RUN to the store. And I have to add, just this weekend I tried Red Velvet Cheesecake. Total decadence.

OK, Pomegranate Margarita with a sugar rim and slice of lime. I recently discovered the cooling drink this summer. IT IS DELICIOUS! 'Nuff said.

Hot Chocolate with whipped cream - or better yet and much more decadent, put a scoop of french vanilla ice cream in piping hot chocolate, then top with whipped cream!

Peanut Brittle or Pecan Brittle! Oh yeah, it's hell on your teeth - and I can't make it without a total kitchen disaster, but it is something I buy every year. Or I want for my oh-so-talented friend, Shannon, to send me some. (Hi, Shan!)

And last but not least, Turtle Pretzels. My mother-in-law makes these and I quickly became addicted. You simply take a square pretzel, place a Rollo Candy on it, top with a pecan and bake just until the Rollo gets gooey - not too gooey. Oh, they are so, so, so good.

So tell me a few of your favorite foods for this time of year! One lucky commentator will win a $5 Wild Rose Press gift card and a PDF of my latest release, TWICE IN A LIFETIME!

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY #6

Christmas would be nothing without gifts, right?  So, why would I have a difficult time writing about the best Christmas gift I ever received?  Probably because I'm the worst person to buy for.  My husband has said it, my mother has said it, even my children have said it.

The problem is not that I'm picky, quite the contrary, I'm not choosy enough.  I'm so excited that anyone thought enough to get me a gift, I can't say I've ever gotten anything I wasn't grateful to receive.  Maybe that's what it boils down to.  I'm one blessed person, and I know it.  I may not drive the fanciest car or live in a castle of a home, but I have everything I could ever need, so when people ask what I want, I honestly struggle to think of anything.

That's why four years ago, I was actually surprised that my husband got it right without my even telling anyone the one thing I wanted but thought was too expensive to ask for.  Not jewelry, not fur, not even spa treatments (although I wouldn't say no to the last one).  No, after eleven years of marriage, he knew me well enough to know what I go crazy for and sprung for an e-reader.

I realize this is a fairly common gift now, and even at the time, e-readers were already growing in popularity, but the prices were still very high, and I was amazed he'd sprung for such an expensive gift.  I finally understood how other women felt when they opened a little black box and saw the sparkle winking back at them, except my ultimate sparkly wasn't a diamond--it was a way to get instant reading gratification, anonymity, and portability.  I was beyond happy and gushed about it to anyone who would listen.

Sometimes they get it right, and I have to thank my husband for my best Christmas gift ever.

How about you?  What's the best gift you ever received?  Are you easy or difficult to gift?  Leave a comment and your e-mail addy for a chance to win a $10 gift card to the online bookseller of your choice.
