The Doctor is IN!!!!

What is it that women find so sexy about male doctors? Is it the way they look in those baggy scrubs? Is it the white lab coat? Or is it their ability to accessorize: stethoscopes looped casually around their necks, pen light at the ready to check your eye’s dilation reaction, tongue depressor in hand, or the way they look coming out of surgery, with the fashionably snazzy head coverings, masks, and those little slipper things over their shoes? Maybe it’s all of that power at their fingertips as they feel for lumps, swollen glands, stiff joints, etc... I hear the God syndrome runs pretty high in doctor’s circles…no matter how much we all know that nurses are just as important in the medical profession and get far too little credit from some doctors. I have to admit that I’ve pretty well lucked out when it comes to doctors. Although my GP is a woman here in Kinder, my three specialists in Lake Charles are all men…and extremely good looking men, at that. Since a couple of my novels center around medical professionals I’ve decided to dedicate this week’s blog to my very own Men of Medicine.

First up is Dr. William C. Moss, a surgeon in Lake Charles, La. Well over six feet tall, I've seen this guy go from capable, young, handsome "Billy Boy" (His dad is also a doctor) with dark hair and dark brown eyes, to the older, distinguished looking doctor with salt and peppered hair. Still extremely attractive, but more important, a wonderful doctor. Caring, efficient, listens to what I have to say and never rushes through an examination. He's ordered breast biopsies, removed cysts, and performed my lumpectomy almost two years ago.
Judge for yourselves...aint he purty?

Next up is Dr. John Noble, an orthopedic surgeon in Lake Charles who has perfomed carpal tunnel surgery on my hand as well as arthroscopic surgery on my knee. He's a little under six feet tall, has blond hair and blue eyes, the best bedside manner and very skilled as a surgeon. Doesn't hurt that he's verra nice to look at, ladies. Aren't I lucky?

How about other real life doctor’s? Here’s a couple I watch on television quite often:
Dr. Oz – made famous by Oprah – Also a nice looking man.

My newest favorite doctor to watch on t.v. is Dr. Travis Stork from The Doctors. Incidentally, the hunky six feet, four inch hunky doctor also appeared as The Bachelor on season eight. I just found out about that...did anyone else know that?
What a dish!

I ask you…HOW SEXY IS THAT?

Let’s just throw in some Grey’s Anatomy hunkies, for good measure.
Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd), Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), Eric Dane (Mark Sloan), and my personal favorite, Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt)

  1. Lori,

Nice topic, and some nice pics too! I like the pic of our local docs...it must be easy for you to attend your appointments. Ah...a man that is easy to look at and one that also makes you think when you speak to him!

All this speaking of doctors reminds me that you have one waiting in the wings for his own book...I believe I'm anxious to get my hands on Tanner's book. Can't wait for that!

  2. That's right, this entire blog is dedicated to Dr. Tanner Collins of "Sarah Smile", I'm itching to write it too, but as they say, no use writing the sequel if you can't sell the first in the series :( I'll get there!

  3. It's absolutely a delight to be ill when someone like that takes your pulse :) My family doctor when I was growing up was very handsome, too. Like "Billy Boy" in reverse. My doc had a handsome son who chose Not to return 'home' to practice. Wasn't a big enough place for him--pity.

Thanks for the very nice post. Good to know the handsome docs aren't only on the screen :)

  4. Excellent post, Lori. Yep, you're one fortunate lady having some great looking and capable hands taking care of you.

Years ago, I had a very attractive OBGYN doctor when I lived in Arkansas. I ALMOST felt guilty every time I went in for my yearly check up...kinda felt like I was cheating on my then husband...heehee.

And Lori, I'm looking forward to reading your series too! Don't worry girl, you'll definitely get there too. Hot doctors are always a plus in a romance. :)

    HUGS,

    JD :)

  6. Great post, Lori! We have a local hospital doctor that I love seeing when the kids are sick after hours and we can't see their own doc. One time I had to get myself checked and I had him. He began asking me personal questions, and my stomach got all fluttery and I thought, "should he be asking me those things?" then I realized, yes he should - he's the doctor and he needs to know. Kind of burst the fantasy bubble! LOL He's got longish, curly hair, tall, nice build... All the ladies out here sigh when you mention Dr. Fredette's name! LOL

As for the doctor fantasy romance - I think maybe because women spend so much time taking care of others that we like the thought of someone taking care of us for a change!

  7. Okay, I must live in the wrong part of the country...I always get the grouchy old man doctors. Of course, I don't go to the doctor that often, I don't get sick much (knock on wood). However, I am still a little jealous of your local doctors.

Thanks for the Grey's Anatomy doctors too. I still watch that show even though there are times that I wonder why I still watch it. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with that show.

  8. I have really lucked out, I realize that. You know, Kasey, it's only been a year or so since I started watching Grey's and I'm still not a fanatic about it. Like I said, I'm a big Kevin McKidd fan. Saw him first on the HBO series "ROME" then on NBC's short lived series "Journeyman" (thanks to the writer's strike). He and Patrick Dempsey were both in Made of Honor, and I love that flick. Don't know what it is about him...he just melts my butter. Now, after having admitted that, I want y'all to understand just how difficult it was not to title this blog "The Doctor is In...and Out...and In..." Y'all get the idea, right? ;)

  11. Uh...I don't agree with the not writing til your pubbed thing...write what you want to, don't wait for someone to give you the green light. Because you're better than that anyway! :)

Many authors have told me to send queries off for whatever book you want, doesn't matter if it is first in a series or not.

And yes, even I had it wrong, authors do sell out of order. Case in point SUSAN SEY sold her book MONEY, HONEY(I believe that is the title) and in that book the sister is already married to her hero. She told me at RWA that the sister's book will come out later. So see...she was under contract out of order and that is how they pubbed her. So it can be done!

  12. I agree with you, Trish. I've written three in my gymnastics series because I felt compelled to, but the first one hasn't been accepted anywhere yet. If you write what you feel you need to things will fall into place. I've written other books that I don't know if I will ever sell, or I might re-write, but it was a learning experience and good practice.

  13. Tanner will be sixth in the series...so it hasn't stopped me. I'm just trying to play catch up now.
