Welcome to our blog! We are a group of romance authors who met at the 2010 RWA conference and became instant friends. Though we all write in different sub-genres, we all face the same challenges; we all face the same blank page whenever we start a story. With that in mind we established our mission statement: To provide inspiration and stimulation for romance writers.
First the inspiration. Sometimes the hardest part of writing is coming up with the initial idea. I thought a list of prompts might inspire. (I hope my fellow Angels will add to this list)
1) The last time she saw him he was dead........
2) Of course the first cop on the scene of "naked lady trapped in XXXXX" would be her ex-husband/lover....
3) When they got to PLACE, she was going to kill him.....
4) Though she usually wouldn't complain when a dead-sexy man was on top of her, a dead man was another story......
Next the stimulation. Let me introduce our honorary member, Jake Owen. If you're not familiar with his name or his music --- why not?? Look at him for goodness sake! LOL
He is in fact the image I think of when I picture the hero in my work in progress.
Which brings me to a question . . .Do you use photos of men - famous or not - for inspiration? Or do you have pics of your hero/heroine? If so, who are some of your favorites?
We'd love to hear from you!
I have collages of men but I tell my darling hubby that he is the inner hero for all my heros. The internal man if you will. Current hero on my wall is Hugh Jackman and a few other amazing guys.
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteGreat way to start off our new blog. For those of you who haven't zipped on over to watch the YouTube video of Jake Owen, let me just ask - WHY NOT?
Lisa
Love this blog site, ladies. You don't have to convince me about how sexy Jake Owen's is. I'll have a couple of pics to share with y'all of my own heart throbs next week.

I like to use pictures of my characters...it helps me remember what the look like!
ReplyDeleteI know how to add videos to the blog too, so if you want I can upload the Jake Owen video directly to the blog, or would that be too distracting? ;)
Lovin' the site too! Jennifer, you did an awesome job. I love to use inspiration from different things: movie lines, song lyrics, pictures and even from the local vitamin store's hot male employee...hmmm...maybe I can sneak a pic of him to share w/ ya'll. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI second everything everyone said although I tend to be a visual person using pics, videos and movies as my 'manly' inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteEven the way a man tilts his head or smiles is sometimes a 'click' moment for me and I need to find pencil and paper to write down the thought in my head.

Jake is good, and he reminds me of Luke Wilson, who is yummy. Hugh Jackman is to sigh for. Looking forward to reading this blog. Y'all sound like fun. Sorry I wimped out and missed the wine party.
ReplyDeleteJen, I definitely use photos, videos and such as inspiration for my characters. Jake's video of "Tell Me" was oh..so damn sexy. Megan, did you happen to catch Hugh Jackman on ET this week? They were discussing the new movie "Butter" in which he will play a ranch hand or farmer, American this time, instead of Aussie. :0
ReplyDeleteALSO...if any of you are looking for a nice send off for the weekend, check out Chuck Wick's music video of "Hold That Thought". Bluesy, soulful, absolutely yummy yum yum!!!!

I just found a wonderful specimen, er, I mean man and I'm trying to convince him to let me feature him for my turn on the blog. Music helps get me in the mood for a scene I'm writing, and often I'll listen to a song over and over until I'm done. Often my books have a soundtrack to them for my inspiration.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I just found a picture of a dark angel that would be perfect as Jake's sidekick. I put it on my photobucket account. So How do I paste the picture here on this blog site? Help!!!!
ReplyDeleteLori
ReplyDeleteOkay ladies...I thought we could have Jeremy Shockey as an honorary assistant to Jake Owen this week. How often do you see a hunky New Orleans Saint in angel wings. (Sorry New York, your loss is our gain) I'm adding another one with no shirt. God bless ESPN!!!

ReplyDeleteKellie, I'm with you girl. I make a soundtrack CD for every one of my manuscripts.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Kasey, I don't think a video of Jake Owen singing "Tell Me" would be distracting at all. Hint..hint.. ;)
ReplyDeleteI will get right on that. :)
ReplyDeleteI listen to music to keep me focused and those pesky what if's at bay. They like to float about in my head at the wrong time. For my hero/heroine, I tear out pages from magazines or print out photos of actors/models if one reminds me of my characters.
