"Look at that Momma - a shooting star!"
She smiled at her son. "Yes, honey. How beautiful. Why don't you make a wish?"
"I wish for you not to be alone this new year."
Tears formed in her eyes. Now there was a thought she'd wished often over the last few months. Someone to come along, and share his life with her and her son. "That's nice, sweetie. But  you could have wished for something for yourself."
"I don't want you to be lonely."
"I'm not lonely. I have you."
He rolled his eyes. "Mom, you know what I mean."
She ruffled his hair. "Okay - time for bed."
"But I'm not tired." He let out a big yawn.
Famous last words for a tired child, she thought.

All right - you're up! What happens next?

All I Want for Christmas #11 - Favorite Tradition or Memory

It's not coincidence that my favorite traditions/memories have all happened in recent years. They all have to do with grandchildren...MY grandchildren to be specific. The more I have, the better the memories. Between my hubby and I, we have ten grandchildren, with one more on the way...two more if I count my future daughter in law's son from a previous marriage...which I do, of course. The more, the merrier.

Up until three years ago, the biggest tradition we had was to watch "The Christmas Story" from start to finish at least twice between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then I had a minor brush with breast cancer that scared the bejeezus out of me. I began thinking seriously of my immortality. I wanted to start a tradition that was sure to be near the top of my children, as well as their children's, list of favorite memories.

Every year at the beginning of December, I rent a couple of cabins at a nearby state park. Both cabins are on the lake and share a wharf. It's perfect for fishing if it's not too cold outside. We've had weekends when it was warm and balmy (remember, I live in south central Louisiana) and we've had cold fronts move in, bringing icy wind and rain, in which case we light up the fireplace inside and the bonfire outside. We bring one of my artificial trees, and the kids make homemade decorations to adorn the tree. We open gifts the first night so the kids can play with their toys all weekend. The children open first then the adults play the white elephant gift game. It's turned into a real blast for everyone and a weekend that we all look forward to. I'm including a shot of one of the gorgeous views we get to take advantage of.

So what's your favorite Chritstmas tradition? Leave a comment (along with your name and email address so I can contact you if you win) and you will be eligible to win a free copy of my first book, Some Day Somebody. Either an autographed copy in paperback, or a free download...your choice. I'll also throw in a download of my new short story, Hart's Desire, as well as a little souvenir from Cajun country.Have a wonderful Christmas!Lori

All I Want for Christmas Giveaway #10

First off, I hope everyone is having a great holiday season! And that you are all enjoying our Christmas giveaways! I knew our Angels could come up with something spectacular and in sync with the 'spirit' of giving this year!

My topic today is FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SMELL.

I have to admit that I really don't have a favorite smell for the holidays, but if any of you REALLY know me, you know that I LOVE food! So that pretty much rounds out what I love to smell at this time of year......LOL!

The scents of a roasting turkey and a honey glazed ham. The brown sugar laden smells of yams sticky sweet with their syrupy glaze, alongside the sharp tang of cranberry sauce. Don't forget the sweet misery that awaits when you hit the dessert table! Pecan, apple and pumpkin pies! Scrumptious, nose-tingling, stomach cramping, divinity, pecan pralines and fudge....

Gosh, that list could go on and on!

There are a few smells that aren't in the food category that I also love...the fresh, woodsy scent of a fir tree. The sharp smell of that certain holiday fragrance you love lighting before your company arrives.

Please share with me, my fellow angels and our blog followers what you believe is YOUR favorite smell for the holiday.Don't forget to post your email address also, so that I can get in touch with you if you are the winner!

As the prize I have a trio of fabulous season scented mini candles in glass votive holders, and a book surprise!

Sending best wishes and warm thoughts for:

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY # 8

Tell about your favorite ornament and win a prize.

I love holiday traditions, and one of my favorites is the Christmas tree. Some people have beautiful creations that would warm the cockles of any interior decorator’s heart. Not mine.

Mine always look lopsided, with holes and mismatched ornaments, courtesy of the multi-aged children and grandchildren who put the tree up on Thanksgiving day. The tree sports especially mismatched ornaments. That’s because our tree decorations are collections of favorites from everyone in the family. That includes designs from the sparkly but strange ones spotted at Wal-Mart to the Disney collectibles the grandchildren pick out every year.

I have a few from a friend who sends the official White House ornament yearly. And there are a few other rather fancy ones that caught my eye--hey, G/ma gets to have one now and then. :)

Consequently the tree is a mismash. But I love it that way. Yet no matter what new prize anyone contributes, there are two that hold special place in my heart. Or used to, that is.

When my sons were small, the very first ornaments they chose were wooden figures, representing things they liked. Not Disney. We couldn’t afford that. I don’t even recall where they came from.

One was a band major: a figure dressed in a bright red band uniform with his tall hat and carrying a baton. That son was later to be his high school band’s major (for a short time--guys didn’t do that, you know :>) and award-winner saxophone player.

The other was a little cowboy on a rocking horse. The son who chose that never could say why it caught his fancy, but it did. He did not become a cowboy :>.

In the good years and the bad years, those ornaments were last put away and first put on the next year.

When the boys left home for college or other life in general, I continued to lovingly place those two figures on the tree. They brought back wonderful, nostalgic memories. I wouldn’t trade them for the most expensive ornaments available.

I no longer have them.

Not many years ago, the last time we all were together on Christmas, each son asked if he could take his ornament for his own tree.

I miss them. It doesn’t seem like my tree is decorated without them. Just this year I found myself, unthinkingly, looking for them.

Those were--and will always be--my favorite ornaments. Inexpensive, slightly worn, wooden figures that represented my sons.

I just hope they pass them along to their children.

What about you? What is the story of your favorite ornament?

Comment and win a prize!

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY # 7

I know you all think sexy Man Candy is my favorite thing *grin* but today I'm going to talk about a few of my other favorite things - Christmas things and Winter things....Food and Drink!

Honey Baked Spiral Ham! Yum. If you've never had one, treat yourself and your family this year. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Next, something I make - Mashed sweet potatoes. My recipe is 4 or 5 large sweet potatoes, 1 can of sweetened condensed mile, 1/2 cup of sugar. Cook potatoes, drain and mash, add milk and sugar, top with marshmallows. This is sinfully good.

My sister-in-law's rolls. They are so good, people pay her to make them for their family gatherings. Total warm, yeasty goodness. Mmmm. I want one now! :)

Oh, yeah. Red Velvet Cake. Can you believe until a couple of years ago I had never tried this delicious dessert?? Criminal, I say! If you haven't given into this pleasure, RUN to the store. And I have to add, just this weekend I tried Red Velvet Cheesecake. Total decadence.

OK, Pomegranate Margarita with a sugar rim and slice of lime. I recently discovered the cooling drink this summer. IT IS DELICIOUS! 'Nuff said.

Hot Chocolate with whipped cream - or better yet and much more decadent, put a scoop of french vanilla ice cream in piping hot chocolate, then top with whipped cream!

Peanut Brittle or Pecan Brittle! Oh yeah, it's hell on your teeth - and I can't make it without a total kitchen disaster, but it is something I buy every year. Or I want for my oh-so-talented friend, Shannon, to send me some. (Hi, Shan!)

And last but not least, Turtle Pretzels. My mother-in-law makes these and I quickly became addicted. You simply take a square pretzel, place a Rollo Candy on it, top with a pecan and bake just until the Rollo gets gooey - not too gooey. Oh, they are so, so, so good.

So tell me a few of your favorite foods for this time of year! One lucky commentator will win a $5 Wild Rose Press gift card and a PDF of my latest release, TWICE IN A LIFETIME!

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY #6

Christmas would be nothing without gifts, right?  So, why would I have a difficult time writing about the best Christmas gift I ever received?  Probably because I'm the worst person to buy for.  My husband has said it, my mother has said it, even my children have said it.

The problem is not that I'm picky, quite the contrary, I'm not choosy enough.  I'm so excited that anyone thought enough to get me a gift, I can't say I've ever gotten anything I wasn't grateful to receive.  Maybe that's what it boils down to.  I'm one blessed person, and I know it.  I may not drive the fanciest car or live in a castle of a home, but I have everything I could ever need, so when people ask what I want, I honestly struggle to think of anything.

That's why four years ago, I was actually surprised that my husband got it right without my even telling anyone the one thing I wanted but thought was too expensive to ask for.  Not jewelry, not fur, not even spa treatments (although I wouldn't say no to the last one).  No, after eleven years of marriage, he knew me well enough to know what I go crazy for and sprung for an e-reader.

I realize this is a fairly common gift now, and even at the time, e-readers were already growing in popularity, but the prices were still very high, and I was amazed he'd sprung for such an expensive gift.  I finally understood how other women felt when they opened a little black box and saw the sparkle winking back at them, except my ultimate sparkly wasn't a diamond--it was a way to get instant reading gratification, anonymity, and portability.  I was beyond happy and gushed about it to anyone who would listen.

Sometimes they get it right, and I have to thank my husband for my best Christmas gift ever.

How about you?  What's the best gift you ever received?  Are you easy or difficult to gift?  Leave a comment and your e-mail addy for a chance to win a $10 gift card to the online bookseller of your choice.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY #5

When it comes to the holidays, I love all the sparkling lights, rich food, Christmas carols, and of course the Christmas movies.  I am probably one of the 'worst' Hallmark, Lifetime, and Classic movie lovers when it comes to this time of the year.  There is something nostalgic for me about settling in for the night and enjoying the mayhems, laughter, tears, and oh the dysfunctional family dynamics while viewing a movie about St. Nick, baby Jesus, or family traditions.

Some of my favorite Christmas movies include "Home Alone".  I'm talking about the original one here.  Although the others are fine, the first one leaves me in stitches every time.  I die with hysterics while watching little Kevin and all his mishaps.

Christmas for me can not be complete without watching 'White Christmas' with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.  I absolutely love this movie.  I always find myself crying every time when all the military men salute their retired General.  The music and dance puts me in the perfect frame of mind of wanting to waltz with my very special someone as well.

Two other ones that pop into my mind are 'Miracle on 34th Street' and 'A Christmas Story'.  Again, I love the original black and white with 'Miracle on 34th Street'.  There's something about a good black and white movie that sets the right mood of days gone by.  'A Christmas Story' brings out the little girl in me.  I know it sounds wrong but a part of me loves the fact that little Ralphie gets the worst gifts from his aunt.  That bit of information seems to bring a smile to my face because I realize that I'm not the only one whose gotten a crappy gift from a certain 'special' relative.

Well, those are just a few of my favorite Christmas movies.  Which ones are your favorites and why?  Does it bring back special memories or is there one that has become a Christmas tradition every year with your family?  Please leave a comment regarding your favorite Christmas movie and get an opportunity to win my giveaway of a Christmas DVD movie pack and $10 gift card.

Merry Christmas everyone!

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY #4

I am one of those people who gets totally jazzed about Christmas. The season starts for me the day after Thanksgiving when my sisters and I conquer Black Friday shopping with smiles and good humor. It ends when I sprinkle Christmas magic around the presents Santa leaves on Christmas Eve. And then there is Christmas Day .... A season all of its own.

One of my favorite things to do during the season is read Christmas themed books and sip on wine or hot chocolate. Two of my favorites books are: Twas the Night Before Christmas and The Christmas Story.

In my family, we gather around and read the Christmas Story on Christmas Eve after our Christmas Eve service at church. It is a magical time. Then as the children, ages 15 and 17, prepare for bed, we'll read Twas the Night Before Christmas.

At the moment I have several Harlequin Blazes down loaded on my Nook to read that are Christmas Themed.

So what is your favorite Christmas book? If you post your favorite, your name will be in a drawing for a $10 gift card from Barnes and Noble.

Merry Christmas

All I want for Christmas Giveaway # 3

Welcome to day three of our Christmas Giveaway. Today I'll be talking about Christmas Holidays. Those two words can strike fear into people's heart or warm them to their toes. They bring about memories of spending time with family sharing stories or trudging through airports trying to catch a plane ride home or to visit family, giving us Thanksgiving flashbacks.

Because I live in the Cayman Islands our holidays are always filled with sunshine and our "Christmas weather" is the temperature dropping to the 70's with wonderful cool breezes.

Until last year neither my son nor I had seen snow, so we were excited to visit family in North Carolina. It was in the 50's when we got there which for us was cold, but lovely. On Christmas day we woke up early (my son is seven), and opened presents. Shortly after, it started snowing. We couldn't have planned it more perfectly.

(Had to include this picture of my cutie)

My son rushed outside in a hoody and shorts before I could convince him he needed more clothing. Thankfully five minutes later he ran back inside to put on pants, thicker socks, gloves and a proper jacket. We stayed outside eating the snow that had fallen on the front step staircase and sliding down the driveway in a makeshift sled. By ten o'clock there was eighteen inches of snow and when we drove to town later there were snowmen by every house. It snowed the whole time we were there and my son, husband and I were outside everyday having snowball fights and sledding down the driveway. It was to date the best Christmas vacation we've ever had.

My giveaway today is the famous Cayman Islands Tortuga Rum Cake. For a chance to win this tasty treat tell us about your favorite Christmas vacation and don't forget to leave your email information.

All I Want for Christmas Giveaway #2

Hello everyone and welcome to the next two days of giveaways! Here's what I want to know: What is the worst Christmas gift you've ever received?

As a kid, I remember receiving a brown sweater. What's wrong with that you ask? Well, I didn't want to wear it because it was the color of poo and I was afraid of being teased by the kids at school. As an adult, I think the worst gift I ever received was...SOAP! (I apologize to all those little gymnasts and their parents who thought it was a good gift.) To me, soap is kind of personal, like underwear. You see, I'd never go to Victoria's Secret and purchase undies for a friend because of a thing called PERSONAL PREFERENCE! In my mind, different people like different scents so purchasing soap is kind of a crap shoot. Perhaps to the purchaser of said gift, it doesn't really matter because soap can be relatively inexpensive. But people have different skin sensitivities and some soaps can leave your skin dry and flaky if it's not the right kind for you.

Plus, if you're not purchasing those little $5 gift baskets from your local Wal-mart and going to places like The Body Shop, Lush or Bath and Body Works then you're shelling out big bucks on the hopes they'll like what you pick. I'm guilty of giving soap as a gift too (hangs head), and hoping that the smile the receiver pastes on their face is because they like it and not because it stinks! Because not all citrus scents are zestfully refreshing, some flowers should've stayed in the field, and - WHAT THE HECK IS THAT SMELL?

I really don't mean to complain. A lot of soap is packaged ever so pretty. Some of them are such vibrant colors and interesting shapes. When someone takes the time to at least remember you in a small way, it's a wonderful thing. And I have received some soap I absolutely loved. Any  I didn't like, I let my kids use, or I use it to keep my dresser drawers fresh. (Don't look at me weird - my grandma did that all the time!)

Okay - now it's your turn! What is the worst gift you've ever received? Tell us in a comment below, leave your email addy and you'll win.........not soap. LOL I've got a copy of Bridget Jones' Diary to give away and if you have that, I've got loads of other stuff you can choose from! And while you're here, please follow our blog and you can find us on twitter @AssCheekAngels  :)

Beach Love was our winner from the 1st days of giveaways! Congrats :)

Happy Holidays! Kellie Kamryn
